Crest of the Stars (Sekai no Monshou) is the first arc of a three arc literate character-driven drama based upon a status of novels (as opposed to manga) . Perhaps this deeper background is why the world and background detail presented in the anime has a deep richness to it. Its taut clever battles dissimilarity with the considerable lighter-hearted jockeying in the interpersonal relationship between her highness Lafiel and her charge Jinto. There are aspects of political relationships, class relationships, and region empire relationships demonstrated. Some of the smaller position elements and relationship mysteries of the prior three DVD discs are concluded in this disc, but the larger scope memoir items remain commence for an certain sequel.
For those who wait through the final kill credits, they are rewarded with a short involving epilogue that shows what happens to Jinto and Lafiel three years later after they had parted ways in order to gain their duties.
After the first arc of Sekai no Monshou, there are two more series. The next record arc is Sekai no Senki (Battle Flag of the Stars) .

At this time, only Crest of the Stars has been translated into English, but other stories in this galaxy have been racy and are available in Japanese. In addition to Sekai no Senki, an OVA titled “Birth” and the “Crest of the Stars Movie” have been created. The movie version is a condensed version of the Crest of the Stars series and reuses the animation along with some recent bits not prove in the four discs of the first arc.
Of stamp is that the Abh are an engineered hurry of humanoids originally created as living machines. They broke free of their human creators and destroyed that branch of humanity that created them. They then proceded to reproduce hasty and at the point where Crest of the Stars begins, they control over half of the known “human” situation and are genetically agreeable to normal humans. Intelligence, lifespan, reaction run, psychic awareness of station, and other personal characteristics can be engineered and manipulated. If you can imagine a highly numerous speed like Khan (from Star Journey II) at war with the remaining humans, then that is section of the aspect of this storyline. You gain an thought very hastily from each fight which side is superb pound for pound. Although the Abh are presented in a definite light (as the explain is mostly presented from their viewpoint), I feel sorry for the humans each time they lose a major encounter.
Another nice portion of the Crest of the Stars series (and this disc) is that the fights are done between fleets of ships. This differs from many other anime that tend to avoid snappily actions and is nicely done. Some of the English translations are in error in the series (and result in logic errors), but unless you have a peruse for detail (and there is a lot of subtle detail) you may miss them as details sometimes advance lickety-split and indignant and humdrum and langourous.

I deem that this explain deserves to have the current Japanese books translated and released in a trade edition. Perhaps this could be bundled in a boxset with Sekai no Senki if it ever gets released in English.
It was fabulous. Far beyond my expectations. The series brought me to tears more than once (maybe it’s honest me…^^), and I TRULY hope Bandai releases the sequel. They didn’t advertise for it, but I’m smooth hoping. *crosses fingers* Sci-Fi and angst lovers should check this out. The ending almost left me hollow. (Almost!) But the very ruin was astronomical, telling the audience about the Abh Empire’s crest. (Yes, the atrocious dragon-crest-thing) . And to top it all off, the name of the one who wrote the commentary on the dragon is a Latino! ^_^ I idea that was cute. (But enough about that…) It’s great; I want the sequel. What a wild plug! ^_^

This final DVD state for Watase Yu’s distinguished anime series, Fushigi Yuugi, contains the 2 OAVs that were released. The first OAV has 3 episodes which concerns itself about how Tamahome couldn’t discontinue in the trusty world as his novel acquire while a recent spoiled comes out of NOWHERE. The second OAV has 6 episodes which are about the current rank returning and objective tying up loose ends. This brings the series to a achieve. Personally, the OAVs did not give me the same conclude that I got from the TV series. The stories in the OAVs seemed random and so out of set. Because they were so random, when they got to the loyal narrative at hand, it felt plot too rushed.
The animation is updated from the TV series. Because Miaka and the others are older, they preserve a novel, primitive gape. I mediate the OAVs in general are for a more older audience. There is some nudity that is actually more detailed than in the TV series.
The music gives the same feel but obviously with a more darker mood. Most of the songs are sung by Akemi Sato (who sang the opening to the TV series) . Songs are nice, different ones for each OAV.

Accompanied with the OAV series are these fun limited sigments. For the first OAV, there’s a saunter to a hot spring that only girls are allowed to enter. So you can sight all the *cough* fun they have there. The second OAVs have these outtakes of the episodes that are extremely queer and random.
Final Note: While the FY TV series ended well in my thought, this basically objective concludes it even more I guess. Designate might seem a diminutive steep for unbiased 9 episodes. But then again, it’s obedient quality, it’s Pioneer, it’s Fushigi Yuugi! Even though the OAV series wasn’t too pleasant, it is definately worth watching. And if you bought the DVD box sets (Suzaku and Seiryu for the TV series), you’ll probably want this to accomplish off the collection.
I will try to write a review of the entire Fushigi Yugi series so that you can have a complete (and overall) portray of this improbable anime. Therefore, if you don’t want to know what happens next then please discontinuance reading the specific fragment because spoilers will be included all over in the review that is to follow.

Apart from it, I will try to gain an overall review so that to utter the reader as worthy as possible without giving too noteworthy away.
Fushigi Yugi – The Mysterious Play – (Boxed Station 1, Suzaku)
Two fiends, Miaka and Yui – the typical Japanese high school girls- will advance across a book called the `Universe of the four Gods’ and will be drawn into it (SPOILER! The book basically presents itself to be something like a gate to a parallel universe with the incompatibility that the gods of this parallel universe are the ones who `choose’ whom to allow to enter and why, something that will be implied latter on, in the second box situation) .

There, the two girls will be confronted with a world that is divided into four kingdoms and resembles Customary China, but each of the girls will kill up in a different kingdom as a priestess of the kingdom’s god; and their goal will be to bag the seven `holy’ warriors in order to summon the god. The catch: the girls will be enemies. On top of that, Miaka will deeply tumble in cherish with one of her warriors, Tamahome, who will appreciate her deeply as well but: Yui will want him two; the emperor will like Miaka etc.
The first arc, deals more with the memoir and character development, the viewer learns a lot about the world/kingdoms, the citizens agony etc. Of course all this will be accompanied with a lot of action as well.
Fushigi Yugi – The Mysterious Play – (Boxed Position 2, Seiryu)
This is the continuation of the first arc. Now that the viewer has gotten into the anime, the record takes off. After failing to summon Suzaku, the warriors will have to win two holy ornaments in order to finish it. The chronicle starts to pick up darker and darker, very emotional and the valid conflict between the two parties of holy warriors takes area, and the factual feelings of the esteem triangle (Tamahome-Miaka-Emperor) will be tested; is their savor destined to fail? Additionally, characters that you will learn to treasure, from the first arc already, will die (be it children, men, women, warriors, emperors or whatsoever) … Last but not least, the final battles will also occur not only in the Four Gods Kingdoms but also in our world as well, because the universes will begin to collide (may sound confusing but once you peep the anime it is easy to understand, it is unbiased if I will launch to justify it I will give the fable and twists away, sorry guys) . What will be the demolish?
Fushigi Yugi :The Mysterious Play OVA Boxed Set
Tamahome is now Taka (well, re-incarnated) and lives together with Miaka in our world. However, disaster occurs once a very much and sad force tries to sprint from the world of the four kingdoms and wants to arrive and to waste our world. Now again, the couple will be drawn support into the book, depart forth and succor into the universes, the Suzaku Seven are gathered again and hell brakes loose; because the treasure of Miaka and Tamahome is in serious anxiety (not to mention the worlds as well) .
Fushigi Yugi – The Mysterious Play – Eikoden
This is, for the time being, the last of Fushigi Yugi that is out there. In these OVAs, Tamahome and Miaka are married and she is pregnant. However, a girl named Mayo will enter the book of the four gods as a fresh priestess of Suzaku and will try to: choose Tamahome from Miaka, who will descend into a coma, destroy the Suzaku Seven, pick the child of Tamahome and Miaka as her occupy etc. Tamahome will enter the book but the world he once knew is starting to topple apart…
Overall belief about the series:
Personaly, I contain that this anime alongside with Escaflowne, tops every other anime in the Fantasy genre. It is very emotional, has strong character development, solid and very arresting tale with device too many twists and will support you twisted up till the demolish (that is something that will happen for obvious hehehe)
As for the animation:
The first arc has a sparkling animation but mild a reliable one (in order to secure a relate, the animation is something like crave of the fireflies) . The second one is updated (something like Trigun) . In the first OVAs the animation is definitely updated (something like FMP) . Last but not least, in the last OVAs the animation remains in the same level as the previous OVAs but the creatures’ animation is something like the ones you explore in Digimon (well, personally I preferred the diagram they extinct to be in the previous OVAs) .
Music:
The music, no matter arcs or OVAs, opening or ending, is very – very valid and emotional. You will esteem the music in it.
Worth buying or not?
I will be objective. Personally I care for these series and bought all of them. However, the label may indicate itself to be an obstacle (took me two years to recall the complete reveal) . Therefore, if you can afford it than steal it for and you will not regret it; if not, than try to rent it if possible because these shows are definitely worth watching. Not to mention the fact that the series all together are very long (something that I liked) .
Well, I hope that I could befriend you by presenting you with an overall recount of Fushigi Yugi. If so then please click on the yes button below ^_^

s-CRY-ed is a Japanese Anime series that tells the yarn of two young men named Kazuma and Ryuho. The anecdote is about the people living on a fraction of Japan that broke off from the mainland during a immense upheaval. Now this island, known as the Lost Ground, is home to many people with weird abilities called alters. Alter users have the ability to atomize down matter and rematerialize it in a completely different fabricate. One of our main characters, Ryuho, is an alter user and member of HOLY, a group of alter users created to work for the mainland and conclude any native alters who pick up out of control. The other main character, Kazuma, is one such native alter who works by doing irregular jobs to survive. Along their journies, these two clash many times and are constantly fighting. The relationship that these two have with each other, and the people around them is basically what this note comes down to being all about.

With a supporting cast featuring a wide range of unusual and substantial characters such as Ms. Mimori, Kanami, Strait Cougar, Scheris Adjani, Martin Zigmarl, and Kimishima, it is easy to look how this expose can grow on you. The battles are done fairly well, and are overall delightful to search for. You can usually accumulate at least one character you can picture to, or root for. The main villain, Kyoji Mujo, doesn’t enter until halfway through the series, though in my view his threat is second to the main narrative of the relationship between Kazuma and Ryuho.
Though if you composed don’t know why this product deserves five stars, it is because all 26 episodes of the point to, yes this series is short, are in this location. To salvage an entire series, especially an anime, for unbiased over 30 dollars is in my concept an wonderful deal. Perhaps I am giving this anime too mighty credit, but I really indulge in it and do feel it deserves more appreciation. Of course, ultimately whatever you contemplate of this anime is up to you to choose. If you haven’t yet seen it, perhaps you should before actually buying it, though I don’t own you’d regret buying this. What’s left to say? If you like an action anime, that revolves around a mountainous number of engaging characters, check out s-CRY-ed.
When I watched the first episode, I opinion I had wasted my money. It looked like the demonstrate was going to have the station that of a kiddy anime reveal in which the only thing that happens is characters impartial power up. So the DVD space unprejudiced laid there gathering dust.

I came support to the DVD a couple weeks ago to perceive the second episode, and found out my intuition was bad. Some very fun and intriging characters were introduced in the next episode. There was only one person I found a diminutive bit annoying since she continually talks about this indecisive dream of hers, but it didn’t throw me off. None of them are alike; their personalities all vary and there is always conflict.
Talking more about conflict, there is a lot of fighting in the series. All the fights seems to have a modern twist, though, that keeps away the boredom factor. Plenty of time is spent status developement too. The central theme of the set seems to be about being too expeditiously to believe and the terrible conclude of the opression of people. I hardly found it predictable, and there is always an unknown.
I also have to give kudos to the people who did the music of the reveal. I can’t remember one time that the music did not fit into the scene, and I found the beginning’s song very catchy. I’ve seen quite a few anime shows in which the background music sounds a puny too korny, but not in S.Yell.Ed
What keeps this reveal from getting five stars? I mediate it has to be the animation. Not that the animation itself is bad- actually it’s very well done. The special effects are realistic and the character’s faces never sight disportional. The only jam is the coloring. Its very pleased, light, as glorious as a rainbow. I believe if the colors were gloomy and the characters were drawn more maturely, I believe this point to would be remarkable more accepted. The delicate colors give it a kiddy reveal feeling even though people die and there is cursing.
I highly recommend this series, but I fair have to remark you don’t be too speedily to reflect like I was.

The visuals are nothing short of dazzling, especially in HD. It’s worth the download honest to check out how beautifully the cg animation is rendered. The action scenes are tight, with Matrix-esque dumb motion shots, crazy camera angles and an emphasis on heavy gun play, indicative of producer John Woo’s style. One drawback on the cg animation though is that when characters interact with each other physically it seems awkward. They don’t feel like they are touching. I imagine that when you develop something with animation like that you’d hasten into clipping issues when the characters intereact heavily. In fact, it reminded me of prick scenes from Eternal Sonata, a video game using similar animation techniques but on a bigger scale obviously.

The anecdote is an upgrade from the first movie, although the main antagonist borrows heavily from classic Star Scuttle villain, the Borg. There’s even a Borg like cube of sorts that serves as it’s foundation. The subplot consists of a triangle between Deunan, Briareos (the main protagonists from the first movie) and Tereus, a biroid created mostly from Briareos’s DNA who becomes Deunan’s original partner after her lover falls in battle.
If I were to do a criticism I’d say that the main antagonist was revealed a tad too leisurely, making the final resolution a dinky anti-climactic. At a runtime of about an hour and 40 minutes I felt like another 20 minutes would have been justified. When it was over, I couldn’t quite acquire it at first. Also, and this may be a estimable thing, events from the first movie go almost completely without mention. This means that you won’t have to have seen the first one to savor this, but at the same time there is a lack of continuity for those that did.

All in all though, it’s a great film and worth a look.
The first Appleseed film (from 2004) was quite a treat. The cell-shaded CG graphics looked very favorable for the time. Complementing this distinct standout aspect was an piquant chronicle and an beneficial soundtrack. It’s worth noting that the epic, in particular, felt like a genuinely fresh re-animation of sci-fi concepts.
Fast forward to today and we have the sequel, Ex Machina. It’s stunning simple to separate what works and doesn’t in Machina:
GRAPHICS:
The level of detail in the graphics has improved dramatically, and characters study less like geometric objects with textures painted on and more like suited people. The cityscapes are even more impressive. Furthermore, the action is more frequent and looks even slicker.
My two gripes with the visuals are these: First, in what is all too accepted in action movies like this, the best scene is the first one. Hands down. I don’t understand why so many directors feel the need to frontload their movies. I will say that the movie is less guilty of this than its predecessor. Second, movement outside of action scenes peaceful looks a bit jerky. Some might fault mo-cap technology, but for my money, Final Fantasy: Advent Children boasted some powerful believable movement.
STORY/WRITING:
Here’s where Ex Machina falls apart. The chronicle here isn’t anything you haven’t seen executed better in anime/other entertainment. Compared to the situation of the first movie- which created a new sci-fi framework, this one felt like a filler episode. The villain was cliche, the chronicle far less complex/meaningful than the first, and any intrigue or mystery the legend might yet have held was ruined by the immoral writing. The film tasks itself with letting the viewer in on a number of concepts considerable to the site, but rather than integrate them seamlessly into the dialog, it bashes the viewer over the head with them.
MUSIC:
The soundtrack wasn’t bad- I unbiased didn’t see it most of the time. This constitutes a diminutive letdown considering how often I return to the soundtrack from the first movie.
OVERALL: Ex Machina is a notice to sight and warrants a blu-ray steal. Unbiased don’t query it to expand distinguished on the ideas introduced in the first Appleseed.

The Most Awesome DVD Ever Created. Trash The Old Disk!![]()
This new “Ultimate Edition DVD” of Terminator 2 Judgement Day, one of the biggest box office smashes of all time, is truly The Ultimate Edition. Unless you get this outside of the US (which I did) you have two disks. One disk is the movie (THREE versions of the movie, in fact), and the next disk is all the special features. And it takes DAYS getting through every feature. I mean, three documentary, 8 trailers and TV spots, an entire script, interviews that you can access separately, and 52 chapters of behind the scenes footage, from makeup to visual effects, from editing to restoring deleted scenes. There are so many special features, this is what DVD was made for! You can also look at the original drawings of certain scenes, awesome!!!!
However, I find the real highlight of this disk (or disks) to be the movie itself, I mean WOW!!! You get three, I repeat, three, versions of the movie. One is the original theatrical version, featuring no cut out scenes (the worst), the special edition, featuring 16 minutes of additional footage (second best) and the Extended Special Edition that you need a code for (the best) which features 18 minutes of additional footage, as well as an alternate ending. Here, now, I will give you a step-by-step description of how to get this extended special edition. I’m sure most of you people reading this know how to already, but this is for those who didn’t know this version existed, or don’t know how to get it. What you do is, you go to the features menu. It’ll say “Theatrical Version” and “Special Edition”. Click on “Special Edition”. Then, you highlight “Play Special Edition” and type in (you may have to type ENTER in-between each number) EIGHT TWO NINE NINE SEVEN (8 2 9 9 7) and then, the “Go To Theatrical Version” option changes to “Play Extended Special Edition”. This is the definitive version of the movie. I believe that every single little, tiny scene that they cut out is in this version. Well, thats the code, now back to my review.
The picture and audio on this disk are SO awesome, you won’t believe it. Crystal clear picture, and sound so loud that it’s like you’re in a movie theatre. The additional, restored scenes are remastered as well, and slip perfectly into the movie. If you haven’t even seen the film, you won’t even notice these scenes put into it. Usually, on additional scenes, the picture is dirty and shakes. Not in these added scenes. And, to make it even better, the scenes are presented in 2:35:1 widescreen anamorphic format. Yes!! Just the first disk makes this DVD the ultimate edition!! Also, there’s an audio commentary by 26 members of the cast and crew, however, this commentary is just interviews put together to sound like a commentary. However, there’s a noticable glitch in the theatrical version, due to the commentary. Well, if you watch this commentary on one of the special editions, you’ll notice it’s the same commentary as the theatrical version, but they talk about deleted scenes as well. You may, also, notice that they continue talking about the deleted “Dream Sequence” at the hospital, when it goes into the next scene. So, now, when you watch the theatrical version, you’ll notice that the beggining scene with Sarrah Connor watching the tape from six months ago, the beggining of the scene is cut off!!! Oops! Well, that’s forgivible. Now, the second disk (or the second side of the disk) has lots of special features. The three documentarys include “The Making Of Terminator 2 Judgement Day”, “T2 More Than Meets The Eye”, where they talk about deleted sequences and the reason they were cut. The last is “The Making Of Terminator 2 3-D Breaking The Screen Barrier”, about the making of that 3-D terminator ride. I loved that ride (yes, I went on it) and this documentary is really interesting. The rest of the features, well, I’m not sure I kinow all of them. Maybe YOU should discover all the features on this disk. If you own the previous DVD release of T2 (which had no extras), then trash it and get this “Ultimate Edition”. You WON’T be dissipointed.
If you found my review helpful, please be sure and vote for me! Thank You Very Much!
Features galore!![]()
This is the most feature packed DVD I own!
Terminator 2 THE ULTIMATE EDITION DVD actually has 3 different versions of the movie; the original theatrical release lasting 136 minutes, the special edition version lasting 153 minutes and an extended special edition clocking in at 155 minutes and 43 seconds which is accessed by an “Easter Egg” discussed below.
You can access the extended special edition version by selecting special edition from the menu and then entering 82297 on your remote’s numeric keypad. You may have to press “enter” after each number on certain DVD players. An easier method is to just select title number 3 from your remote.
The picture quality and sound quality are top-notch on this DVD and it is my top choice for showing off my system to friends and family! It includes Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, DTS 5.1 ES and Dolby Digital 2.0 mixes. The EX and ES designations refer to a new standard that includes a sixth channel of sound that is designed to emanate from a rear center speaker. I have a 5.1 setup, so I couldn’t test this feature, but it’s nice to know it’s there.
This release comes in two formats; either a DVD-18 disc or two DVD-9 Discs. The DVD-18 is a double-sided, double layer disc and contains the entire 6 hours of material on one disc that needs to be flipped and the DVD-9 is a single-sided, double-layer disc which has the material on two discs. Don’t worry, the content on both versions is the same. The two disc version might be preferable for DVD changer users. Due to manufacturing limitations with the newer DVD-18 format, the DVD-9′s were created to better meet demand.
One really cool thing about this title is that the trailers for Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS play according to which audio setting is selected. These are nice to demo your system with! Also, the THX trailer at the beginning was customized for T2 as a bonus.
If you love this movie, get this version now! It has enough bonus materials to warrant a purchase even if you already own the previous release on DVD. This is an awesome special edition that betters the Laser Disc special edition at a quarter of the list price! There are English and Japanese trailers, 700 storyboards, a 26 person audio commentary, making of T2 and T2 3D featurettes and DVD-ROM material as well.
Last, but not least, you get “THX Optimode,” a tool to properly adjust your home theater audio and video settings for optimum enjoyment. I recommend Video Essentials or Avia Guide to Home Theater DVDs for critical system adjustment, but this is a great tool for free! To access “THX Optimode,” select “Sensory Control,” click your remote’s left button and click on the highlighted THX on the endoskeleton’s skull.
This is a great DVD with my highest recommendation!
Terminator 2: The ULTIMATE DVD EXPERIENCE!![]()
As I opened my Amazon.com box revealing a shiny outer metal casing for this DVD, I knew I was in for something special. This “Ultimate Edition” impressed me even before opening the plastic wrapping! Soon, I slid off the metal T2 casing revealing a beautiful 2 disc DVD package. The graphics on the outer casing and on the discs themselves are quite creative. The booklet is also impressive….30 pages of photos and interesting facts concerning James Cameron, his crew and the film. It also has a detailed list of the chapters and a list with information on the restored footage. OK…so far I have a huge smile on my face, and I haven’t even popped the DVD into my player yet. By the way, if you plan to keep the booklet inside the DVD case, make sure you close it tightly! This booklet is so thick, you’ll have problems keeping the package closed! Anyway, I finally pop in Disc 1. The animated graphics are terrific! Disc 1 contains the theatrical release of the film, the special edition with restored footage, and the magic “easter egg” ending. It also gives you an assortment of audio options including Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, DTS 5.1 and Dolby Surround 2.0. You also have the choice of audio commentary by 26 cast and crew members! What I thought was really great about the commentaries was that the name of the person talking is shown on the screen with their credit, so you always know who is talking without getting confused. That was a pleasant surprise. You also have the choice of English subtitles and “Mission Profiles”, which are biographies of many cast and crew members. You can also jump to any scene you want with an impressive “timeline” graphic. Being THX certified, this disc also contains a THX set-up. OK…so lets talk about the DVD. I decided to watch the “Special Edition”. After a very impressive new THX logo, I sat back and watched the film. Instantly, the sound was top notch. If you have a subwoofer, you may have to make sure that anything hanging on your walls are securely fastened. The remastering job on this film is amazing. The stereo separation, the ambience, vocals and music all sound incredible. This film really set a new standard for sound design when it was first released, and this DVD compliments the sound department to the fullest. You are thrown into a surround sound environment that is addicting and thrilling. Even those with simple 2 speaker set-ups will be happy, but those with advanced surround systems will have some explaining to tell the neighbors. This DVD is a great test for your system. A true audiophonic, stereophonic thrill. OK…enough about the sound…what about the picture? Well, the picture is also superb, with incredible detail and beautiful deep blacks. Color saturation is beautiful with deep blues throughout the film. The transfer is incredibly clean. Can you believe that I can STILL see the wires suspending Arnolds motorcycle as he jumps into the canal!!?? (Chapter 21, I believe.) Anyway, the widescreen presentation of T2 is definitely the “ultimate DVD experience.” **By the way, SLOWLY type in 8-2-9-9-7 in the main menu AFTER you choose “Special Edition”. This accesses the secret “Extended Special Ediion.” (different DVD players may require you to press ‘enter’ after each number, while others may not.)** OK…let’s talk about disc 2 which contains all the supplemental material. The opening graphic animation is really great. This animation brings you to the main menu. The main menu is subdivided into 3 sections….”Information Programs” which has 3 featurettes, “Making of T2″, “T2, More then meets the eye”, and “The making of T2 3D”. The second section, “Visual Campaigns”, has a “Teaser Trailer”, two “Theatrical Trailers”, and a “T2 Special Edition Trailer”. The thrid section, The “Data Hub”, has all other supplemental material. This includes 574 still frames of the final shooting script, original storyboard sequences, a bunch of video sequences including videos of James Cameron, the co-writer, the effects designer, stunt coordinator, interviews with cast and other crew members and a BUNCH of other stuff that will keep you watching until T3 is released! The “Data Hub” also contains an impressive graphical behind the scenes story of T2, or you can choose a video featurette with behind the scenes footage….both very impressive. For you PC people, you can also watch the film while reading the script and looking at the storyboards. You can also link to online T2 websites. I won’t ruin all the surprises of this disc, but I recommend you to experiment with this disc…there are a few other surprises that I won’t go into detail about. In conclusion, I want to applaud everyone involved in the making of this DVD, especially the Creative Supervisor Van Ling. It is simply one of the BEST DVD’s available and gives everyone a reason to own a DVD player. Much time was spent in producing this package, and it is worth every penny. Full of surprises, top notch audio and video quality with THX certification, and an attractive outer case too! My fiance and I both loved this movie when it was released and we aloof do. When we heard it was coming out on Blu Ray and on top of that 3-D we were beyond inflamed. Well that excitment was crushed when we got home, assign it on and were almost given instant headaches from the broken-down school red and blue 3-d glasses and the fact that no matter how hard we tried to eye it, it unbiased was nowhere advance 3-d quality. We sat there contemplating whether or not it was fair us or if the 3-d aspect of it sucked that unpleasant and we came to the conclusion that it was definately the latter. So after a half hour of trying hard to like it we switched it to 2-d (thank god for blu ray for having that option) and saw how in 1080p it was almost 3-d itself.
Needless to say the very next day I went assist to the store I purchased it from and changed it for the regular blu ray version (which was $5 cheaper than the 3-d version and totally worth the recall, 5 stars for that version.) It was very dark that it did not work out because such an astonishing holiday movie with such substantial animation would be a no brainer to have as 3-d but unfortunately it impartial is not worth the headache and strain.

I went to glimpse this movie tonight with a mentally handicapped friend – “Michael” — (from a L’Arche home here in Winnipeg, Canada) . We were the first persons in the theatre for the very first evening showing in this city – and we were the last to leave. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – enchanted by the movie’s subtleties and happily exhausted by its roller-coaster rides.
Time and again, Michael (who is sensitive, compassionate and with a safe sense of humor) turned to me in the darkness, smiling in appreciation at the valid same moments I turned to perceive his reactions. Each time this happened, it was at a moment in the film when some miniature detail, perfectly captured through reliable ‘cinematography,’ brought moisture to my normally cynical gaze, and a warm smile to Michael’s innocent face.

Some examples: There is a lone, dismal child on this apparent ‘dream train’ to the North Pole – a girl of about ten or eleven years, and like a painting approach to life, the miraculous technology at work in this film captures the particular sensibilities of this compassionate, murky youngster — We gape runt mannerisms of someone comfortable with herself in a design the other (ten or so) white kids on the voice are not. And the execute is profound — the movie audience, including some children of that same age group, went mute at such moments in the film.
My friend Michael – who has a ‘savant’ genius for perceiving my emotions, and expressing them for me out loud in public — Michael turned to me with a cheerful smile when the girl on the thunder reaches out to fill the hands of the poorest boy, sitting alone in the rear compartment; and later, she hugs two other boys, (one of them the central character) — at their final parting. At that moment I held up a finger to my lips to try to hush Michael, but couldn’t prevent him from saying aloud: “She’s such a sweetheart.” There were murmurs of appreciation in the darkness around us, responding to this innocent sentiment.
There is a sublime moment, on the serve platform of the tantalizing relate — the Northern Lights glimmering in the distance — when the young girl joins in song with the poorest kid on the narrate (a younger boy from a outmoded home on the “far side of the tracks”) . I admit to being overcome with emotion during this duet (a resplendent, strong melody with poignant lyrics) – and I blurted out loud to Michael, after the first chorus: “What a extraordinary song!” The refrain includes the words “When Christmas comes to town.” [It's a song so generous that, with some future 'cover versions' by serious musicians who could do it justice --- this "Christmas Comes to Town" song could, I possess, deservedly join the runt list of proper, Christmas 'classics.']
I’d have to agree with anyone who thinks this movie is a microscopic short on spot. And yet . . . once you’ve suspended disbelief — beginning with an earth-shattering, Christmas-eve arrival of a steam-puffing, passenger remark on a small-town Michigan street, directly outside the home of the movie’s central character — once we’ve swallowed that premise, the movie disarmingly embraces the child in us, (including our fears) and our reservations vanish without our noticing.
Just as mountainous `realistic’ painters, (deem Rembrandt or Vermeer) worked wonders of light & shadow that no mere photograph could ever prefer, so too this computer-animated marvel takes your breath away through an accumulation of small but acute observations that could never be captured by broken-down cinematography. Prime examples from the opening scenes:
A shaft of light illuminates the boy’s bedroom, and he is reflected in a chrome, automobile hubcap leaning against a wall; at once we piece his concept — through the keyhole of his bedroom door – we can study only the backs and the dressing gowns of mother and father, as they say goodnight to the boy’s young sister, after determining the situation of her thought in Santa’s existence – a thought no longer shared by the older brother, whose gape is at the keyhole.
Later, on the tell, there’s an stunning discontinuance up of the boy’s face, a itsy-bitsy blemish above the pores on his upper moral cheek; the `camera’ pans in rotation, capturing perfectly, the texture of the boy’s hair, and that of the young gloomy girl sitting beside him — subtleties of such perfection one wonders if the recent, artistic accomplishment of “Polar Voice” could ever be surpassed.
The film’s last scene, consists entirely of a close-up concept of a miniature, silver bell (of the type associated with sleigh rides) with its attached ‘ribbon’ of red leather. The exiguous bell helps design the final point about `Belief’ — in things unseen, (or forgotten, and thus inaccessible to some adults) . So simple, so distinguished, so enlightening an image. My friend Michael turned to me at that moment, with a shapely smile. And we fair shook our heads in alarm.

Yes, this movie must have SOME shortcomings – one or two moments that don’t quite work as intended by the creators. But factual now, in the afterglow, I can’t select what they were. The film was unprejudiced too satisfying an experience!
I’m a 57-year-old grandfather who happens to gain that “The Polar Assure” is the first, right Christmas classic in almost 60 years. Not since the recent Kris Kringle “Miracle” movie of 1947, has any film (to my jaded study) so transcended our secular, commercial views of the Holiday Season, with such uplifting and unique reminders of the timeless and honest spirit of Christmas.

The Laurel and Hardy classic, March of the Wooden Soldiers (originally released as Babes in Toyland), was the incredible result of combining two ample talents with a childlike, fantasy world and adult situations (Laurel and Hardy, Toyland and an injurious landlord’s mortgage conspiracy, respectively) . Such rich source material makes for a film of unsurpassed quality: featuring rich and imaginative environments, costumes, sights and sounds. Every fairytale has its day, from Miniature Bo Perceive to the Three Minute Pigs to Mother Goose, and even Santa. We all know that the winter months are a time to remember to greatest holiday classics from years past, and March of the Wooden Soldiers is unsurpassed in its genre.

The holidays are associated with radiant and festive colors–bright reds, greens, blues and golds–that station a warm and cheery mood, and the movies that we determine to bask in during this season are no different. Fortunately, this edition of March of the Wooden Soldiers has been colorized, bringing newfound vibrancy to the events on camouflage and helping to integrate this classic yarn with the former warmth of the holiday season. Rather than a visually dead grayscale that reminds one of the dour winter weather, toy soldiers shimmer in vivid red onscreen, and our two comedian leads are further humanized by their newfound flesh tones and radiant Christmas garb.
As colorization efforts go, March of the Wooden Soldiers is a superlative worry, looking as though it was originally produced in the first generation of Technicolor, rather than decades earlier. The producers in charge of this re-mastering inconvenience clearly plan that we would secure an “faded color” appearance more acceptable than attempting to obtain it view completely unusual, and this arrive works very well. I’m certain you’ll agree if you survey a preview.

It’s worth noting that this disc also includes the dark and white version of the movie, perhaps as a peace offering to those of you who might object to the alteration of a classic film. I would go so far, then, as to call this the definitive select of March of the Wooden Soldiers, not fair because you’ll have a choice between color and dismal and white, but because the first step in colorizing any movie is to “shipshape up” the pre-existing sunless and white material as grand as possible, and it certainly shows in comparison with other versions available.
In addition to both versions of the movie, this disc’s special features really push it over the top. As a media buff, the included classic trailers are a extraordinary prelude to the main feature–I like to imagine that I’m getting the same experience as the audiences who first viewed Laurel and Hardy some seventy years ago. And, in keeping with this package’s holiday theme, the interesting Rudolph the Reindeer movie is thoughtfully included, ensuring that you and your family bag the most value out of a single disc.
For any family or fan of holiday cinema, this package is definitely a must-buy.
I very mighty rob this film in color than in unlit and white, and I have watched both the Goodtimes colourized version and this Fable version. For me it comes down to this:
The Goodtimes has the best saturation, better overall colour, and better dissimilarity without exposing the print too distinguished to bleach out details. It is also a cleaner print. However, it is not exactly in focus (or seems to be a diminutive in “double-focus”), and the beginning is the “March of the Wooden Soldiers” credits instead of the unique “Babes in Toyland”. I found that I did score archaic to the queer focus, but it took a while.
The Story version is very enthralling and certain, has most of the novel titles with their snippet of animation leading into “Babes in Toyland” (*) . But, it is a washed-out print with highlights burned out, and overall has a greenish-cast, which is bad. (Maybe you can adjust for this on your DVD monitor.) The menus have loud, monotonous, disturbing music–a characteristic that I always disapprove and hate (pure silence is best) .
(* The first current title is an approval certificate. Anecdote replaces this with a title-card that has their gain name. No loss folks, really.)
The Narrative black-and-white version does appear to be simply the colourized print with the colour turned off. It, too, is a bit washed out, and has a LOT of nicks and scratches that are not on other prints. The new release of this movie by MGM proves that this film is unruffled in pristine condition; it has worthy, exquisite sound as well. It also has all the unique main titles COMPLETELY intact and restored. This Story release cannot possibly be from the fresh negative, and it is NOT “spectacularly restored”. Once again, we have been lied to.

Worth the watch.![]()
The visuals are nothing short of stunning, especially in HD. It’s worth the download just to check out how beautifully the cg animation is rendered. The action scenes are tight, with Matrix-esque slow motion shots, crazy camera angles and an emphasis on heavy gun play, indicative of producer John Woo’s style. One drawback on the cg animation though is that when characters interact with each other physically it seems awkward. They don’t feel like they are touching. I imagine that when you make something with animation like that you’d run into clipping issues when the characters intereact heavily. In fact, it reminded me of cut scenes from Eternal Sonata, a video game using similar animation techniques but on a bigger scale obviously.
The story is an upgrade from the first movie, although the main antagonist borrows heavily from classic Star Trek villain, the Borg. There’s even a Borg like cube of sorts that serves as it’s foundation. The subplot consists of a triangle between Deunan, Briareos (the main protagonists from the first movie) and Tereus, a biroid created mostly from Briareos’s DNA who becomes Deunan’s new partner after her lover falls in battle.
If I were to make a criticism I’d say that the main antagonist was revealed a tad too late, making the final resolution a little anti-climactic. At a runtime of about an hour and 40 minutes I felt like another 20 minutes would have been justified. When it was over, I couldn’t quite believe it at first. Also, and this may be a good thing, events from the first movie go almost completely without mention. This means that you won’t have to have seen the first one to appreciate this, but at the same time there is a lack of continuity for those that did.
All in all though, it’s a good film and worth a watch.
Better Than The First? Yes and No![]()
The first Appleseed film (from 2004) was quite a treat. The cell-shaded CG graphics looked very good for the time. Complementing this obvious standout aspect was an intriguing story and an excellent soundtrack. It’s worth noting that the story, in particular, felt like a genuinely original re-animation of sci-fi concepts.
Fast forward to today and we have the sequel, Ex Machina. It’s pretty simple to separate what works and doesn’t in Machina:
GRAPHICS:
The level of detail in the graphics has improved dramatically, and characters look less like geometric objects with textures painted on and more like genuine people. The cityscapes are even more impressive. Furthermore, the action is more frequent and looks even slicker.
My two gripes with the visuals are these: First, in what is all too common in action movies like this, the best scene is the first one. Hands down. I don’t understand why so many directors feel the need to frontload their movies. I will say that the movie is less guilty of this than its predecessor. Second, movement outside of action scenes still looks a bit jerky. Some might fault mo-cap technology, but for my money, Final Fantasy: Advent Children boasted some mighty believable movement.
STORY/WRITING:
Here’s where Ex Machina falls apart. The story here isn’t anything you haven’t seen executed better in anime/other entertainment. Compared to the plot of the first movie- which created a unique sci-fi framework, this one felt like a filler episode. The villain was cliche, the story far less complex/meaningful than the first, and any intrigue or mystery the story might yet have held was ruined by the horrible writing. The film tasks itself with letting the viewer in on a number of concepts necessary to the plot, but rather than integrate them seamlessly into the dialog, it bashes the viewer over the head with them.
MUSIC:
The soundtrack wasn’t bad- I just didn’t notice it most of the time. This constitutes a slight letdown considering how often I return to the soundtrack from the first movie.
OVERALL: Ex Machina is a sight to behold and warrants a blu-ray purchase. Just don’t expect it to expand much on the ideas introduced in the first Appleseed.
The Future of HD Anime![]()
What a cool flick, much better than Appleseed 2004. Great actions sequences it has John Woo written all over it. It even has some scenes from the Matrix trilogy. See it in HD my friends, beautiful vivid picture.
