Movie Title: A Charlie Brown Christmas A Charlie Brown Christmas is available for streaming or downloading. |
Perhaps the most endearing of all the Charlie Brown specials is “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, the first in a long series of made for t.v. half hour films portraying the distinguished Peanuts Gang.
For almost forty years, watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” has been an eagerly anticipated event for millions of households. I lift watching it as far abet as twenty-two years ago, and have watched it every Christmas since.
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” was made in a time when commercialism was running rampant all over the country. Stores advertising to shoppers what they ought to steal, long before Thanksgiving had advance and gone. Unfortunately, we collected gape this blatant commercialism today, which makes this short film so very poignant and all the more special.

Charlie Brown is assigned to disclose the school Christmas pageant, noteworthy to his glee; for he feels approved and great. When Lucy tells him to go out and earn an alumminum tree, he takes Linus along with him. What Charlie Brown ultimately gets is a slight, sickly looking tree, which is rapid loosing its needles. But, Charlie can recognize how worthy the tree “needs him”, somebody; something which he can identity with.
When he returns, he finds the gang dancing to un-Christmas like music, instead of rehearsing their lines. They end to catch a eye at the tree he brought, immediately burtsing out in mocking laughter. Apparently Charlie Brown has failed again. In disgust and humiliation he flees, taking the tree with him. And when he comes upon Snoopy’s dog house, all decked out in Christmas lights, not to celebrate the joyous holiday, but to regain money in a contest, Charlie Brown has had enough, and almost loses all faith in Christmas.
Linus saves the day, somehow able to bring the tree attend to life, and execute it watch worthy healthier and stronger. But it is when he explains the meaning of Christmas that the “gang” gets the point of Christmas, and what Charlie Brown was trying to do.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” ends with newfound meaning for Christmas, hopefully not soon forgotten by either the Peanuts Gang, or, more importantly … us.
I realize that I am writing this several weeks after Christmas, and this is a Christmas DVD, but this is the first year that I missed watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on television, so I rented the DVD. Ever since I was a dinky boy, this has been my approved Christmas special, and one that I always looked forward to watching every year. I grew up reading the Peanuts silly strips and I grew up watching the Peanuts Christmas special.
Charlie Brown is glum. He can’t seem to earn himself into the Christmas spirit. He doesn’t like the commercialism of Christmas and scarcely knows the fair meaning of Christmas. Lucy selects Charlie Brown to be the director of their Christmas play and he decides to procure a Christmas tree for the production. The other kids enlighten him to catch a “nice shining aluminum tree, maybe a pink one”, but Charlie Brown and Linus bring wait on a shaded looking sincere tree. Charlie Brown is almost laughed out of the auditorium, but when he asks if anyone knows what Christmas is all about, Linus has the retort. Linus recites a passage from the Bible telling of the birth of Jesus. Charlie Brown is cheered and leaves with the tree. He tries to decorate the shrimp tree, but even that is ruined. Linus and the gang follow gradual, fix up the tree, and at the kill, they prove the just spirit of Christmas.
It is a sweet cramped Christmas special, filled with memorable moments that will always accomplish me smile. The one thing that amazes me is that Charles Schulz was able to include Linus’s speech approach the extinguish about the birth of Jesus. I don’t imagine that would have been able to be included today, but I reflect the special is all the stronger for it. I have a hard time imagining that any novel Christmas reveal will ever absorb as special a set in my heart as “A Charlie Brown Christmas”.
This DVD also includes “It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown” (1992) . This Christmas feature is lacking the overall charm and emotion of the older special, but it has a lot more humor. It is also different from the first Christmas special in that this one is more a series of vignettes (perhaps based on Schulz’s droll strips) than a complete yarn. There are sequences with Charlie Brown trying to sell Christmas wreaths before Thanksgiving, and of Sally rehearsing for a Christmas play. Sally’s sole line is “Hark!”, though I believe she missed the rest of her lines where the herald angels bid. It is a cute cartoon, but ultimately it does not quite live up to “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, but it my mind, nothing can live up to that one.

My 2 1/2 year-old son received this dvd as a Christmas gift and LOVES it! It’s now February and he calm asks to peep it frequently. It is well-produced and captivating so we don’t mind watching it as well.
Yes, it is longer (obviously) and more complex than the Bob TV series, and some children may acquire bored with it. And Elton John fans, be warned, his character does not have a very large role.
We have been waiting for this for over a year, and my 4 year-son former was VERY gay to leer it finally reach. We loved the last “feature length” movie (Knights of fix-a-lot) so I knew that this chronicle would be able to gain his attention for the beefy sage. I LOVED seeing Elton John… which my son couldn’t care less about. He wished he could observe the trucks more. (They didn’t do noteworthy work in this legend that is for definite.) He also wanted to explore Bob and his brother (Tom) together more… don’t want to spoil it, but they don’t pick up together till the extinguish! He didn’t gather to recognize them exercise Christmas together, which was the whole point of the movie to him. He also opinion the novel Mayor was bossy… which she was.

The Laurel and Hardy classic, March of the Wooden Soldiers (originally released as Babes in Toyland), was the incredible result of combining two ample talents with a childlike, fantasy world and adult situations (Laurel and Hardy, Toyland and an injurious landlord’s mortgage conspiracy, respectively) . Such rich source material makes for a film of unsurpassed quality: featuring rich and imaginative environments, costumes, sights and sounds. Every fairytale has its day, from Miniature Bo Perceive to the Three Minute Pigs to Mother Goose, and even Santa. We all know that the winter months are a time to remember to greatest holiday classics from years past, and March of the Wooden Soldiers is unsurpassed in its genre.

The holidays are associated with radiant and festive colors–bright reds, greens, blues and golds–that station a warm and cheery mood, and the movies that we determine to bask in during this season are no different. Fortunately, this edition of March of the Wooden Soldiers has been colorized, bringing newfound vibrancy to the events on camouflage and helping to integrate this classic yarn with the former warmth of the holiday season. Rather than a visually dead grayscale that reminds one of the dour winter weather, toy soldiers shimmer in vivid red onscreen, and our two comedian leads are further humanized by their newfound flesh tones and radiant Christmas garb.
As colorization efforts go, March of the Wooden Soldiers is a superlative worry, looking as though it was originally produced in the first generation of Technicolor, rather than decades earlier. The producers in charge of this re-mastering inconvenience clearly plan that we would secure an “faded color” appearance more acceptable than attempting to obtain it view completely unusual, and this arrive works very well. I’m certain you’ll agree if you survey a preview.

It’s worth noting that this disc also includes the dark and white version of the movie, perhaps as a peace offering to those of you who might object to the alteration of a classic film. I would go so far, then, as to call this the definitive select of March of the Wooden Soldiers, not fair because you’ll have a choice between color and dismal and white, but because the first step in colorizing any movie is to “shipshape up” the pre-existing sunless and white material as grand as possible, and it certainly shows in comparison with other versions available.
In addition to both versions of the movie, this disc’s special features really push it over the top. As a media buff, the included classic trailers are a extraordinary prelude to the main feature–I like to imagine that I’m getting the same experience as the audiences who first viewed Laurel and Hardy some seventy years ago. And, in keeping with this package’s holiday theme, the interesting Rudolph the Reindeer movie is thoughtfully included, ensuring that you and your family bag the most value out of a single disc.
For any family or fan of holiday cinema, this package is definitely a must-buy.
I very mighty rob this film in color than in unlit and white, and I have watched both the Goodtimes colourized version and this Fable version. For me it comes down to this:
The Goodtimes has the best saturation, better overall colour, and better dissimilarity without exposing the print too distinguished to bleach out details. It is also a cleaner print. However, it is not exactly in focus (or seems to be a diminutive in “double-focus”), and the beginning is the “March of the Wooden Soldiers” credits instead of the unique “Babes in Toyland”. I found that I did score archaic to the queer focus, but it took a while.
The Story version is very enthralling and certain, has most of the novel titles with their snippet of animation leading into “Babes in Toyland” (*) . But, it is a washed-out print with highlights burned out, and overall has a greenish-cast, which is bad. (Maybe you can adjust for this on your DVD monitor.) The menus have loud, monotonous, disturbing music–a characteristic that I always disapprove and hate (pure silence is best) .
(* The first current title is an approval certificate. Anecdote replaces this with a title-card that has their gain name. No loss folks, really.)
The Narrative black-and-white version does appear to be simply the colourized print with the colour turned off. It, too, is a bit washed out, and has a LOT of nicks and scratches that are not on other prints. The new release of this movie by MGM proves that this film is unruffled in pristine condition; it has worthy, exquisite sound as well. It also has all the unique main titles COMPLETELY intact and restored. This Story release cannot possibly be from the fresh negative, and it is NOT “spectacularly restored”. Once again, we have been lied to.

There are over a hundred reviews for The Aristocats as of this date. They all refer to the previous edition (Disney Gold Classic Edition or whatever they called it years ago when it first came out on dvd) .
So now we will have those reviews mixed up with fresh reviews for the Feb 5, 2008 version which offers more extras and a different aspect ratio. This may compose things a bit confusing.

Moving on…
People compare this film to 101 Dalmations. This is Disney’s “cat” movie, they say. You can’t compare them; they’re too similiar somehow.
But they are both decent, cute family films.

Yes, Cruella is scary compared to the bumbling butler Edgar. There is a sense of jeopardy but Dalmations is distinguished stronger in that sense.
Both films were made using the 1960′s Xerox diagram where the resulting animation is more sketchy looking and more halt to the novel animator’s drawings.
The Aristocats is more of a musical, definitely. A few forgettable songs, but also the charming and infectious tune “Everybody Wants to Be a Cat”. That is the tune I deem of when I remember the adventures of Duchess and Thomas and the kittens. (101 Dalmations had the miniature “Cruella De VIl” song, but that’s it.)
Overall this is a fun vehicle but it is not a classic such as Peter Pan, Cinderella, or Lady and the Tramp. It has a nice, relaxing lunge and is probably most bright to youngsters. The whisper talent, as ever with Disney cartoon features, is mountainous. Eva Gabor’s Duchess is warm and maternal while Phil Harris as Thomas O’Malley is macho yet sweet (and sounds like a lifelong diehard smoker) . He also lent his vocal prowess to The Jungle Book when he played Baloo the hold.
This special edition for 2008 has some cute extras. But unless you’re a total stickler for aspect ratios or you get every version they release, the previous edition should suffice. It was elegant, with a certain and brilliant picture/sound presentation.
I’m so contented that Disney made this film. I powerful seize the more innocent Disney movies of the past. Movies like Lady and the Tramp and The Aristocats are truly fun, wholesome entertainment. Don’t come by me started on the current Disney films which are arrangement too alive to in pushing hit pop songs and attracting adults with more action, violence, and suggestive dialogue. I know things can’t discontinue the same so I’m delighted we have this film from a more innocent era. I particularly like the fact that the pacing is relaxed and the villain is not very scary. I’m always looking for what I call “peaceful” movies and videos for my 2 and a half year ragged. I don’t want him seeing horrid or fast-paced images. Lady and the Tramp and Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas are other colossal shows for young viewers. Unlike the sterile environment of the Teletubbies, these movies are rotund of extraordinary images and provocative music. I accept the backdrop drawings extremely inviting and stylized. I also like the setting of the film (France) as opposed to the mainly exotic locations lately of Disney films.
