“Shutter,” offers nothing current in the scare genre, in regards to what one expects from anxiety. However, what impressed me with the film is that it is the first feature film by both of the Thai directors, Bangjong Pisanthankun and Parkpoom Wongpoom. Furthermore, this is typical of the terror genre, including American anxiety films. Many borrow from each other. Having written this, I would also like to point out that there are many elements in this film which you will not examine in MANY anxiety films: Like a epic. The strength of this film is the breeze that Tun and Jane must go through in trying to untangle the mess that their life has now suddenly taken. Further, the acting is very favorable in this film. Plus there are no special effects, or funny gore scenes. All in all, I concept this was a very helpful film, and for that it gets 5 stars. I have the import DVD, purchased through Asia Cinema. Therefore, I don’t know how well this recent DVD copy is. However, I do recommend the film. It will originate a nice addition to your foreign cinema collection. [Stars: 4.5]
Shutter was my first experience with a fear film made in Thailand and I was taken by its subtle apprehension and the skillful method that the suspense was built up over the course of the film. Tun, and his girlfriend Jane are heading home after a night of drinking with Tun’s buddies when they hit a young woman walking in the road. Jane wants to come by out to check on her but Tun urges her to drive away. In the days following the accident, Jane is wracked with guilt, wondering what happened to the woman while Tun’s only pains is the neck damage he’s experiencing from the accident. Tun is a photographer and he starts to view unique images appearing in his pictures. Wisps of glare distort the images and what appears to be a dusky figure is seen.
Jane finally convinces Tun to re-visit the accident situation but no heed of the girl is found and no hospitals narrate any accident victims from that night. They visit the publisher of a ghost magazine and he shows them dozens of photos with spiritual images in them…some fakes, yet others unexplained. The tensions mount as Jane learns about Tun’s connection to the girl they hit on the road, a apprehensive, old-fashioned lover who he dated in college. The film builds masterfully towards an unsettling and utterly gross climax, the likes of which I’ve not experienced before. This is a ghost tale in the moral gothic tradition. A mournful, baleful spirit who elicits both anxiety and pity.
At first I conception Shutter was unprejudiced going to be another Ju-On type of film and it’s almost as if the directors caught themselves falling into that inevitable comparison, and took things in another direction. It’s a tiny film…the main characters (one or both) are onscreen nearly throughout the entire movie. Natthaweeranuch Thongmee as Jane and Ananda Everingham as Tun are fantastic and believable in their roles. Unlike so many low-budget American fright films where the actors play brainless characters, these two prove astounding depth and have a suited chemistry together. Again, considering their relative inexperience as actors, their performances are surprisingly loyal.
What really propels Shutter is that it doesn’t go for any cheap thrills or scares the arrangement so many American films do…there’s no gratuitous T &A, no execrable machismo from the male actors, unprejudiced restrained, and worthy performances. These two young stars, and their directors have a mountainous future in front of them.
If there was one little disappointment, it’s that the DVD doesn’t near with considerable in the draw of extras. There’s a brief interview segment with directors and cast, and some slow the scenes material but that’s about it. The film is in Thai with English subtitles. You must explore this one!

It’s been almost four years since I first saw Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and wrote my review for Amazon.com. After seeing the novel complete version on Blu-Ray, I belief I’d near succor and offer my thoughts only to look that my novel review was transferred over from the DVD edition. That review was written at a different time, before the DVD was even released in the States. I belief about going relieve and revising it, but that’d be changing the past. Firstly, if you’re looking at the Blu-Ray edition, wondering if it’s a estimable capture, it definitely is. It’s a considerable gracious version to the novel, both in boom and clarity. Obviously, with the Blu-Ray the report quality and sound quality have been considerably increased. Cloud, Tifa, Sephiroth, Marlene, Barret, Vincent. The names could go on. This series reigns in many Final Fantasy fans’ minds as being the best. Though in novel years a lot of people roll their eyes and say its over-rated (and it might be), for me, and for a lot of fans, Final Fantasy was a turning point in the genre not only in terms of graphics and presentation but also in myth. I have been playing video games and RPGs since the very first NES. Final Fantasy VII was the first game that made me terminate and go, wait when did a video game become something more than unbiased pushing buttons?
Now we have the official sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Advent Children is basically a appreciate sign written for the fans of VII. Those who did not invest 40, 50, 60+ hours into the game will probably have no interest in it. But those who were petrified when (should I even say spoiler? ) Sephiroth murders Aeris, who have a deep connection to the characters, and over the 40-60+ hours grew so attached to them that to this day they serene design fan art or peep for that elusive arrangement to pick up Aeris support in game(it doesn’t exist, by the contrivance), this movie will mean something.
AC is a sparkling CG movie taking residence two years after the events of FFVII. In fact, it left him empty and afflict as we derive in the beginning of Advent Children. What AC does is attain Cloud’s sage. Another reviewer here made a comment that he liked FFVII’s ending. I do too, don’t pick up me base. But the one thing it didn’t do was extinguish Cloud’s sage. As I said, AC ends Cloud’s epic with a bang. And it is damn well worth the wait.
I don’t judge it would be fair of me to talk about what happens in AC. Fragment of the fun and surprise is to discover how well it fits together, brings memories of the video game and works to acquire an emotional core. I will retain the review as spoiler free as possible because I know I’m tired of reading reviews where people stick in something that can demolish the whole movie.
For those who didn’t play or eye FFVII, this movie will not have remarkable resonance since it’s basically for the fans, both die-hard and casual. One in particular revolves around the games Kill Battle Theme. Hilarious, laugh out loud scene. There are some minor annoyances. A couple of the scenes felt episodic and not connected. Some scenes were directed very well and lead into each other or intercut between each other. But there are a couple scenes that stand out because they didn’t feel attached to what was going on. In fact, it felt as if they were slash scenes from a video game. Did this detract from the movie? Not in the least, but its there nonetheless.
What surprised me the most with this movie is that it wasn’t done to milk the saga. I mean, of course its there to fabricate money, and FFVII is a titanic intention to do it because of fans’ worship for it. Anything in the business world is made around making money. But what I mean exactly is best represented in FFX-2. I am one who did not win FFX-2 at all piquant. In fact it is the only FF game I gave up on. It felt like it was a device of milking FFX for a small more money while the wait for FFXII kept getting longer and longer. However, AC is so intrinsically related to VII that it has a heart and emotion that I haven’t seen in many movies released this year. I felt chills from the very opening moments as the narrator explained some of the events from VII and we glance a flashback of Sephiroth standing in front of flames. And that was objective the inaugurate of the thrills; there are scenes both emotional and thrilling to be found throughout the 1 hour 40 minutes of the film. And what contented me above all else was that Cloud’s tale finally received a perfect resolution.
I consider most fans have been hoping and wishing that Aeris would return and I deem the creators give a colossal retort to this in this movie. I won’t spoil the ending, I won’t vow you who does and doesn’t return. But I will articulate you the resolution is damn well awesome and probably the most satisfying ending to what is by far many people’s common (if clichéd) choice for the Final Fantasy series. I do need to do a plea and I apologize for it, but if you downloaded this movie (like a positive reviewer did *cough*) please assist it when it comes out here in the States and select it. We need to demonstrate encourage to Square-Enix that this is the kind of sequel we want to contemplate. They spent a long time and a lot of money making a movie that is divulge to DVD here in the states. We need to return the favor and wait on it.

About the Film:
I followed Advent Children closely from the first time it was announced some time in 2004. I am a die-hard Final Fantasy fan, and although I would have preferred the sequel to one of the greatest games of all time (Final Fantasy VII) to be, well, a game, I was happy to survey the myth continued in a medium with slightly more widespread appeal. The older scenes, while clearly providing more detail than the DVD release, are missing the clarity that right HD material is wonderful of, often appearing fuzzy or out of focus. It is not generally noticeable, but it does become an positive annoyance in a couple of scenes. Arguably this could have been done on purpose, adding a “fuzzy” filter for ambiance, but I doubt they would have intentionally added upscaling artifacts which are reveal in this film. The most important instance I can consume is during Tifa’s scenes, particularly in the church; the aliasing on her hair is more reminiscent of a DVD being upscaled to 1080p than of a modern render done in 1080p.
Little touches have been added to further “sell” the quasi-realism that this film is striving to accomplish. During battles characters’ faces bag dirty, during one scene flecks of dust in the air created itsy-bitsy shimmers.
Story:
While the same narrative is being told, the added/extended scenes and to an extent the visual enhancements do add a different slant on the residence of Advent Children. While the main points of the tale remain unchanged, the spot is made clearer and obvious elements which seemed random or unimportant engage on unique meaning.

For example, during a scene a girl carrying a stuffed moogle comes up to Denzel and holds out her hand for him to follow. In the current DVD release, this is really all we peek of her, but in the “Complete” release we accept to peep an earlier scene that reveals she is really trying to invent an apology to Denzel for being low before.

I’ll leave the spoilers at that, but I’ve only revealed a couple of the dozen or so area augmentations that this version of the film brings to the table. Most of them gave me that “Ooooh that’s what they meant. I obtain it now.” feeling. Maybe I’m unprejudiced humdrum, but a lot of these things weren’t positive to me in the film’s new presentation.
Sound:
This film really benefits from the expanded HD audio – more so if you have the equipment to properly decode the newer HD audio formats, but even when down sampled to Dolby Digital, the sound is richer and has considerable fewer compression artifacts. Some of the music has been remixed slightly and it seems like I heard one or two additional compositions. Many of the songs were written to lock in with definite scenes, and when the scenes were extended, so was the music. I was very impressed with how seamless it all seemed.
Voice acting is one of those things, like pizza toppings, that nobody seems to be able to agree on. I have never been terribly picky about stammer acting, but since everyone is different I’ll attempt to provide some frame of reference for my belief. My thought of awful insist acting is the Devil May Bellow anime, and my view of obedient shriek acting is Cowboy Bebop. I judge the say acting is valid in Advent Children. I was particularly pleased to hear the voices chosen for the ancillary characters like Barret, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Yufie, Vincent and Cid. But the actors chosen for main characters Cloud, and Tifa were very profitable matches for what I imagined the characters from the game would sound.
Extras:
This review is of the Japanese release, and frankly I did not really care enough about the extras to check them out. I watched them once when the DVD release came out and can’t be bothered to do it again. This does advance with an additional keen “episode” about Denzel. For those of you who want to know absolutely everything there is to know about how a movie was made, you will not be disappointed with the depth.
For me the staunch attraction in the extras was the inclusion of the Final Fantasy XIII playable demo. Since the PS3 is place free, the Japanese release is very import capable. (If you don’t mind that it is all in Japanese) The U.S. release mentions a Final Fantasy XIII “preview”. I don’t know if that means that it will be a demo, or an extended trailer. It would be a shame if it was the latter.
Final Thoughts:
I wish all “director’s nick” releases could enhance the modern presentation as well as Advent Children Complete does. The extra footage catapulted this already substantial movie firmly into the category of awesome. If you didn’t savor the first release because you unbiased didn’t “rep it” then this release may be unprejudiced what you need to set the pieces together as many of the more vague areas of the position are clarified. If you loved the first one, then you’ll treasure this one even more. About the only thing it is missing is the ability to explore the recent release version of the film. Personally that isn’t an explain for me but it would have been a nice addition.
Although this review is for the Japanese release, I doubt noteworthy will change in the final U.S. version. My reasoning is that the the DVD release was nearly identical for the two territories, and there are only two months between Blu-ray releases.

s-CRY-ed is a Japanese Anime series that tells the yarn of two young men named Kazuma and Ryuho. With a supporting cast featuring a wide range of unusual and substantial characters such as Ms. Mimori, Kanami, Strait Cougar, Scheris Adjani, Martin Zigmarl, and Kimishima, it is easy to look how this expose can grow on you. The battles are done fairly well, and are overall delightful to search for. You can usually accumulate at least one character you can picture to, or root for. The main villain, Kyoji Mujo, doesn’t enter until halfway through the series, though in my view his threat is second to the main narrative of the relationship between Kazuma and Ryuho.
Though if you composed don’t know why this product deserves five stars, it is because all 26 episodes of the point to, yes this series is short, are in this location. To salvage an entire series, especially an anime, for unbiased over 30 dollars is in my concept an wonderful deal. Perhaps I am giving this anime too mighty credit, but I really indulge in it and do feel it deserves more appreciation. Plenty of time is spent status developement too. The central theme of the set seems to be about being too expeditiously to believe and the terrible conclude of the opression of people. I hardly found it predictable, and there is always an unknown.
I also have to give kudos to the people who did the music of the reveal. I can’t remember one time that the music did not fit into the scene, and I found the beginning’s song very catchy. I’ve seen quite a few anime shows in which the background music sounds a puny too korny, but not in S.Yell.Ed
What keeps this reveal from getting five stars? I mediate it has to be the animation. Not that the animation itself is bad- actually it’s very well done. The special effects are realistic and the character’s faces never sight disportional. The only jam is the coloring. Its very pleased, light, as glorious as a rainbow. I believe if the colors were gloomy and the characters were drawn more maturely, I believe this point to would be remarkable more accepted. The delicate colors give it a kiddy reveal feeling even though people die and there is cursing.
I highly recommend this series, but I fair have to remark you don’t be too speedily to reflect like I was.

Let me initiate this review by expressing my absolute adulation for Funimation’s Viridian Collections. I was first introduced to these incredible anime packs through Blue Gender and made it my priority to attempt to locate as many others as possible. Perhaps if I had known this going into the program, I would have been less distracted by the frivolous characters and jutting tale threads that go nowhere throughout. In all Burst Angel is a very recent choose on the mecha category of anime. The visuals are pure Gonzo magic; especially the robot battles themselves. I should often point out that observant viewers may behold a couple of scenes that appear to have been taken almost directly from the 1997 American film Alien Resurrection. I was hoping the creative staff would have commented on this observation in the extras but alas, no mention of it was ever made.
In conclusion this is a 3-star present from Gonzo but a 5-star product from Funimation. Packaging, extras, and value are absolutely through the roof. That’s two for two on the Viridian Collections thus far but who’s counting?
Ok if you like Mammoth mechs, sizable gun, mountainous boobs and a lil hint at lesbian action Burst Angel is for you….You meet Jo, a genetically enhanced gunslinger who fights to protect her lover meg from injure. Meg on the other hand has this uncanny knack of getting kidnapped by the unpleasant guys causeing Jo to waste half the town to bag her. its pointless yet has a point.

I can’t say enough about this series — unless you’ve seen the whole thing, you can’t contemplate it. It’s made by the same people as “Cowboy Beebop” and this DVD is preparing us for the typical BONES conclusion

My only genuine complaint about the series is why we don’t seem to peep too grand of the wolves in their accurate wolf build. I know there are a lot of idiots out there who like human-centric shows and games, and who would equate stories involing animals as Di$neyesque, yet this is a record (as admitted by writer/director Keiko Nobumoto), about a pack of wolves on a gallop…that fact alone makes this account novel. I enlighten they are trying to suggest that the wolves have human like emotions and feelings (I’ve raised and have been around wolves most of my life, and in my conception, right wolves are probably the closest thing to humans in the animal world) . On a side heed…many of my friends have asked what’s up with the method the wolves are dressed in their human guises…what I read into it is that the wolves don’t really understand the opinion of fassion…to them, cloths are objective scaps of cloth and leather that mask the body from the feet to the neck. My suggestion to the producers is that if and when they compose a film or season 2, the fable would be alot more enthralling and challanging to display the pack in their proper wolven forms at least half the time.
If you have seen most of the episodes so far, this disk is the design up to the fianl five episodes. Pay carefull attention, because what happens in most of these episodes has meaning in the final five episodes. If you’ve only seen this series on Adult Swim, pay attention to the opening credits (never shown on the Saturday Night airings of Adult Swim through 2004) . It has a lot to do with the final episode. If you are about to order the entire series, or fair getting ready to recieve the final disk, go out and accumulate a couple of boxes of tissue to go with it…it’s going to be a trademark Studio Bones ending (IE: Cowboy Bebop), though more commence to a film or a second season.

I was first introduced to this film by my friend seven years ago, and I have ever since fallen in admire with Japanese anime. Seven years later, having enjoyed such superb films as Grave of Fireflies, Captivating Away, Akira and Macross Plus etc., this film, Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen(as it is known in Japanese), detached holds a special residence in my heart and will never be replaced by anything.

What makes this film a classic is the degree of perfection the makers were aiming at from every angle. Expect it from a superficial perspective, the drawing for instance, is lush, sensual and very realistic. When falling leaves tumble in water you can examine the ripples; when blood drops on snow it really sinks into it. Everything is shaped and executed with utmost poetry and beauty, and this is right even for the bloody scenes in the movie. In a fighting scene in which Kenshin kills the girl’s fiance, the camerawork strikes me as breathtaking and highly effective, it really gives the action accelerate and momentum and makes it sparkle with fire.
More importantly, the chronicle and characters are what build this film memorable. I have to congratulate the makers of this film because they had an apt script to inaugurate with, into which they weaved elements of tragedy and oriental fatalism, making it into an memoir and legendary story of savor and sacrifice. First off, the tale starts with a gory scene of massacre, the sky has a color of blood, and the music is sad and spine-tingling, setting up a tragic tone for the entire film. In this setting we meet the miniature boy Shinta(later to become Kenshin) for the first time, he is the only presence in that scene that resembles innocence in this world, but soon later his innocence will be forever lost as he witnesses the killing of the three sisters.(This scene is carried out with ruthless realism and precision, for some people it can be unbearable.) Kenshin’s life is tragic and ill-fated apt from the beginning. As we maintain on watching, we grow attached to the characters, we feel for them, for their sacrifice and suffering, and the rare moments of joy and peace they have.

The contradiction in Kenshin’s life is that, he believes that through killing he can encourage bring a unique world to the people, but each time he kills he feels huge guilt and unrest. To catch solace and explain for his actions, he keeps reminding himself that he is serving for a cause that will eventually bring salvation to the people from war, famine, and ghastly government. But slowly he begins to realize the fact that the people he’s trying to eliminate are impartial oridinary human beings; by killing them he is actually destroying families and making others suffer, and that in turn makes himself suffer in guilt. All this makes him nothing more than a killing machine, a tool! The more deeply he realizes about this truth, the more tormented he feels inside his heart. So at this point, a current character is introduced, the girl named Tomoe who is a attractive figure shrouded by an aura of mystery and feminine beauty, a person who is roam to change Kenshin’s life forever….
I loved the contrivance history and fiction are intertweaved in this film to get a tale that is simultaneously legendary and credible. It has been remarked that the character of Kenshin is loosely based on a staunch person, and the political figures featured in the anime have all existed in history. After thoroughly enjoying this film, I actually consume some time looking into the history of 19th century Japan, specially on circumstances surrounding the Meiji Restoration and various key figures in that revolution. And this research has led me to greater appreciation of the film. More often than not, you don’t accept such succesful combinations of history and fiction in films alot; another advantageous example that immediately comes to mind is the award-winning film of 1984, Amadeus, which retells the life of Mozart in a funny and sensational map.
Finally, I’d also like to comment on the music in this film. The music is incredible from beginning to destroy! Not only in the sense that it effectively supports and amplifies the drama, but the music alone forms an emotional pace. It is soulful and introspective, at times black but weepingly blooming. If you listen to the soundtracks in fleshy cycle, scenes in the film reach encourage to your mind in knowing details. I remember when I watched this film for the first time, I was left spellbound and speechless as the ending theme sounds its first notes. In the slay the music takes you all the intention attend to where the narrative started, at which point you hear miniature Shinta talking to his master, and you are overwhelmed by a flood of emotions as this monstrous but hauntingly delicate yarn is brought to conclusion in a cyclic effect.
In my idea everything about this film is masterful and recommendable. This is a very serious work of art that has raised the artistic quality of anime films in general to an admirable degree. Heart-felt gratitude to all eager in the making of this film!
All fans of “Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X” will surely treasure this complete box OVA/OAV position. It is very suspenseful and holds your attention till the ending of this tragic-yet-happy myth.
When buying this box space, you are getting your money’s worth. Usually, this box area runs anywhere from 90-100 USD in some stores, but on Amazon, it practically cuts it in half.
This product does not appear to be a bootleg and is very apt on the subtitles.
There is also another OVA/OAV box position that has a dusky box and is a tiny more expensive. Personally, I favor this one. In the other box location, you do not regain the following:
