Gurren Lagann is one of the best anime shows I have seen in a while. It goes intention over the top and enjoys doing it. It is a explain that unapologetically pushes the boundaries of absurdity, and makes it seem not so absurd.

This DVD will have the English Dub tracks, as well as the fresh Japanese tracks. If you only want the Japanese version, go to the store accurate now, Gurren Lagann Volumes 1-3 Subtitles only is on the shelves for only $20 a disc, nine episodes per disc. This looks to be a more veteran anime DVD release. $60 Special Edition, $35 regular edition, you’re looking at two discs covering the first eight episodes or so. The Drill LED looks to be gorgeous frigid and the box art also seems stylish. This should be a shapely beneficial release.

That’s about $18 per four episodes of Dubbed versions, as opposed to $20 for nine episodes of the Sub only version. Shop wisely!

Only other time I payed this considerable for anime was FLCL (6 episodes, 80 bucks)

Now I’ve payed 70 for the first 9 episodes of Gurren Lagann, having bought the first, sub-only release, and now rebuying for this. But I’m not buying the novel releases for the dub. I’m buying them for three reasons. First, I wanted the artbox. It opens by lifting the top side, which open’s the Gurren’s mouth. The second is the special features. The first releases only had the point to, nothing more, and while the features on this are composed delicate light, they’re better than nothing. Finally, the Core Drill. While not as nice looking as the drill that comes with the Revoltech figure (it’s a Miniature stubby), it evens out in the fact that when you flip a switch, the golden drill glows green with spiral energy. Now, I can go out in public, flip the switch, point into the air and weep “MINE IS THE DRILL THAT SHALL PIERCE THE HEAVENS! ORE O DARE DATTO OMOTE YAGERU? “

This spot contains the first twelve episodes of season 2 of the 2003 TMNT series. It’s peculiar that 4Kids/Funi have only chosen twelve episodes, since this season divides cleanly with 13/13 (season 1 had a multi-parter and the 12/14 split made more sense) . Maybe they’ll revise the residence before release?

Whereas season 1 returned the Turtles to a more “gritty” setting, season 2 launches them into plot(and later, parallel dimensions) . The first five episodes prefer up from the season 1 cliffhanger and have our foursome protecting the Fugitoid robot from the Triceraton and Federation soldiers. The next three episodes finally bring the Turtles home and raze with a horrid (and controversial) declare of the Shredder. Taken with “Search for Splinter,” it’s a non-stop 10-part saga! The status caps off with a filler-ish recap episode, the return of the Nano robot, and introductions to the Ultimate Ninja and Leatherhead (now sans the cajun accent) .

In all, it’s a fun chase. Season 2 does seem a bit more random in spots, as it’s more mini-arcs than one season-long arc. You might interrogate what the whole “Turtles in Plot” saga amounts to, but that pays off in spades down the line. Anyone who enjoyed the first season episodes will likely relish this situation.

Nabari is an anime that is coming to the shores of North America for the first time ever thanks to Funimation. Based on a manga written and illustrated by Yuhki Kamatani, it was released in Japan by Square Enix attend in 2004. The anime adaptation, which is being reviewed here, was directed by Kunihisa Sugishima, and absorbing by JC Staff then hit Japanese airwaves in April of 2008. Funimation has been working to fetch the series here for American viewing pleasure since the summer of 2008 and now it looks like all of the good mumbo jumbo enthusiastic to do so is late them as indicated by the fact that this, The Complete Series Fragment One is region for a September 22 stateside release. But before I acquire ahead of myself, let’s recall a see at the icy hard facts, shall we?

Nabari The Complete Series Allotment One comes in at a runtime of 325 minutes and contains 13 episodes spanning two discs. The discs arrive packaged in a pair of thin packs within a cardboard outer slipcase.

The demonstrate wears an appropriate TV 14 rating due to some slightly adult slanted themes of violence, war, and conflict. There is no nudity, swearing, or gore to portray.

Language options are typical sub and dub, which means the viewer has the choice of running either the novel Japanese dialog track (stereo) or an English dub (Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround) and the option of displaying English subtitles beneath either dialog choice.

Extras include textless songs, a commentary track from some of the English insist talent over Episode 2, and a host of upcoming Funimation anime previews.

The myth, which is surprisingly complex, goes like this: The ho hum teen Miharu Rokujou wanted small more than to live a normal life in the hopes of one day inheriting an Okonomiyaki restaurant. His buddies at school (Kouichi & Kumohira) continually pressure him to join their martial arts club to which he respectfully declines time and time again. Miharu’s tune changes once he’s attacked by an genuine group of ninjas and is protected by Kouichi and Kumohira. There, Miharu learns of a hidden world of ninjas and psychic powers (a station called Nabari) and discovers that people he conception he knew like his classmate and teacher were actually much figures in this unusual world. As they had been trying to convince him, his very survival depends upon his mastery of the mysterious art Shinra Banshou. Even more surprising is that Miharu discovers that he has a hijutsu (hidden technique) within him that unbiased so happens to be control of the power of creation. Many rival clans are seeking the hijutsu as it is foretold that the one who possesses it will become the ruler of their world.

While this may sound fairly straightforward when spelled out as such, the truth of the matter is that Nabari’s presentation demands a viewer’s undivided attention. Seek Information From episodes littered with flashbacks and recaps with hints of a deeper mystery being slowly unraveled in the moments between the action.

Speaking of, there are some seriously ghastly action sequences scattered about which will hopefully shield many viewers from dismissing this property as simply a Naruto wannabe.

The first episode in particular sets a pleasing chilly scurry for the rest of the episodes to follow with a nice combination of back-story and lead character development.

The music catch is appropriate and melds well with the visuals neither outshining the images nor becoming lost to the background. Dispute work is nice and tight in both language options with my vote leaning slightly to the English dub due to the fact that the memoir isn’t linear and many names/ words can be confusing in any language. As such the less I had to support sorted at the time of viewing, the better.

Funimation has already announced plans to release the remaining 13 episodes of the demonstrate to the North American market and I suspect it will be a very trim choose to anyone who has the pleasure of watching this collection.

I have never been a immense fan of ninja stories. For instance, Naruto (in my notion) is the worst record I’ve ever heard of in the world of anime/manga.

However, when Nabari No Ou captured my attention, I was immediately drawn in for keeps.

The tale follows junior high studedn, Miharu Rokujou, and friends as he learns that he is destined to become King of Nabari – the ninja world. However, he is led by his indifference – caused by horror – to want nothing to do with the ninja world. However, upon coming into contact with the Kira user known as Yoite, Miharu begins to construct a tedious turn around, displaying deep emotions for his modern found friend.

This is an fantastic memoir which covers an improbable range of emotions, not to mention, the artwork is sparkling and the action is very well provocative.

I would suggest Nabari No Ou to anybody any time.

If you’re looking for a narrative burly of action, comedy, emotion, and a vast storyline, this anime is for you.

This is one of the better Anime’s to near out in the states and procure air time on TV. The display appears on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim due to it’s graphic violence. I am distinct though that if you are looking at getting this station you probably are already watching it. This is probably the best bewitch for getting the episodes. This status includes volumes 1 and 2 or episodes 1-9. The location also includes volume one of the Manga, OST 1, and what is best described as a radio exhibit containing the characters on a cd. It also includes 3 booklets over the shows main characters with interviews from the creators. The case itself is sturdy with artwork on all sides and on the interior. If you live in a major city I would suggest picking this up from Best Take as it is a shrimp bit cheaper, not remarkable though. If you are going to have it shipped than amazon would be the best bet.

This is a fantastic and wonderful anime. Lots of excitement and drama and characters that live in all kinds of shades of grey. I truly be pleased this anime. The box status is excellently done with a very fair box and loads of fabulous extras. I especially appreciated the manga.

So why the 3 star review? well this first pressing of discs appears to be ghastly. Bandai is experimenting with recent copy protection and it causes serious problems for many DVD players. In particular seizures at episode 3 in disc 1 and episode 9 in disc2. That is provided that it works at all. People using blu-ray and in particular PS3 players appear to have mighty better success rates though.

Unique, fun and gut-bursting humor! “Sgt. Frog” is probably one of the most irregular and crazy anime series you’ll ever study. Hilarious in Japanese but the writing for the English dub definitely takes things up a notch!

Since 1999, the manga series “Keroro Gunso” (aka “Sgt. Frog”) by Mine Yoshizaki (“Arcade Gamer Fubuki”, “Chibi Kero” and “Seven of Seven”) has been exciting readers. Since 2004, the anime series has been bright viewers and both continue to be favorite long-running series in Japan. Now the award winning series gets its first US anime DVD release with the first 13 episodes now arriving in the US.

The anime series is directed by Yusuke Yamamoto (“Welcome to the NHK, “Sakura Taisen”, “Mobile Suit Victor Gundam” and Arjuna”) and features character designs by Fumitoshi Oisaki (“Romeo x Juliet”, “Ontama” and “Kaleido Star”) . The series is known for its consume of parodies of pop culture and in the Japanese case, you will search for a plenty of pop culture references to anime and video games. While, the English dub features a slightly different script than the Japanese and utilizes American pop culture (which I will report more in the video and audio segment of this review) .

The series revolves around an alien hasten of frogs who have advance to conquer the planet Earth. But somehow along the map, things didn’t go as expected and the leader of the platoon, Sergeant Frog finds himself living with the Hinata family. Always up to mischief and trying to collect a draw to conquer Earth, he is befriended by the customary and paranormal/supernatural obsessed boy Fuyuki, beaten to a pulp by his strong sister Natsumi and given a region to live by their mother (and manga editor) Aki who uses him as a source of ideas for her novel manga.

With his obsession for Mobile Suit Gundam models, television and snacks, Sgt. Frog gets too musty to human life, that is until his fellow platoon finds out that he has been neglecting his duties.

“Sgt. Frog – Season One, Fraction 1 features a total of 13 episodes on two DVD’s. Each episode consists of two mini-episodes, most often at times are related to each other. but sometimes you obtain two different stories per episode. Here is a spoiler-less summary:

DISC 1:

* EPISODE 1- Meet the Sergeant! – The introduction of Keroro and how he came to live with the Hinata family.

* EPISODE 2- Bag of Secrets! – We are introduced to Momoka Nishizawa who is in admire with Fuyuki Hinata. We are also introduced to the alien frog, Tamama.

* EPISODE 12 – Pop Startled! – A pop star (a third runner-up of “Galactic Idol”) visits the Hinata home. And Giroro loses his weapon’s sash.

* EPISODE 13 – Viper? I Hardly Knew Her! – The introduction of Dororo and Koyuki.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“Sgt. Frog” is presented in 4:3. For the most fraction, the bewitching section of “Sgt. Frog” are its characters but also the limited Japanese pop culture references, especially Keroro’s care for for “Gundam” (which the model kits are featured in the anime series) . The colors are vibrant and for a television present, the animation works astronomical for this series. Keroro and his members of the Armpit Platoon are frogs with a wintry and cute character do, that it’s no surprise that this series has an extensive merchandise collection in Japan.

As for audio, the English dub is featured in Dolby Surround Sound and the Japanese is featured in stereo. For the most allotment, I have watched both in English and Japanese and the scream acting on both are big. As for audio quality, I preferred to peep the series with my receiver setting at stereo on all channels but for the most portion, the English dialogue is front and center channel driven if watched via 5.1 Dolby Surround.

Now when it comes to audio and watching it on both languages, there is a inequity between the English and Japanese version. For the most allotment, the English version has a rewritten script that utilizes the same storyline as the Japanese version but features American pop culture references and more dialogue. So, for example, when the Japanese dialogue is collected, in the English dialogue, you may hear the narrator speaking.

Although I tend to rob watching anime in Japanese, I have to admit that I found the English dub quite wild and crazy. For example, during one scene in which Hinata siblings and the aliens meet a fellow Galactic pop star, in the Japanese dialogue there is discussion of how favorite she is. While in the English dub, they expend “American Idol” references to showcase her popularity.

Granted, some people may not be familiar with the American pop culture references (especially since obvious situations are taken from that time period, for example the Miley Cyrus and Asians comment) and may easily flee over the heads of those who are not familiar with American pop culture but for the most share, the rewritten screenplay by Jamie Marchi, Jared Hedges and Joel Bergen will easily do people laugh. For those familiar with what Joel Bergen did with “Crayon Shin Chan” will know what kind of humor to demand from the series albeit a more PG rating.

Subtitles are featured in English.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Sgt. Frog – Season One, Portion 1 comes with the following special features:

* Pekopon Invasion Recon Data – Using your remote, you can cycle through various data such as the school uniforms, the vacuum cleaner, the watermelon, afro and more.

* Textless Opening Song – Ribbit March – (1:32) Textless opening theme

JUDGMENT CALL:

Crazy, luscious and fair all out fun! I have to admit that I was completely outlandish with the anecdote of “Sgt. Frog” before watching this DVD. I knew about the character Keroro and the platoon members through the various merchandise seen at many Japanese and Chinese shops but I really didn’t know anything about the series.

And what can I say, after watching “Sgt. Frog – Season One, Fragment 1, I’ve become a fan! I really don’t reflect anyone can be disappointed with this DVD location as its absolutely recent, wild and crazy. As people are wanting to bag a series that is fun and original, I mediate that anime fans that are into comedy-based series can regain something to like about “Sgt. Frog”.

Having watched the episodes in Japanese and English, the Japanese version was hilarious but being an American and familiar with the pop culture references in the dialogue and the Japanese pop culture references on the explain, I had a gargantuan time watching it with the English dub. You can yelp there was mountainous care on the American side into utilizing the time of the series to compose additional dialogue and of course, coming up with something unusual to earn the characters powerful crazier for an American audience.

It’s primary to tag that FUNimation Entertainment went with the unusual names for the dub, so for those who saw the test episode on YouTube and were not happy with the name changes, FUNimation Entertainment did fix that up with only Giroro’s cat keeping the name “Mr. Furbottom” and the hiss talent changed for the final nick.

As for the parents who are wondering if the prove is worthy for children, although the series is rated TV PG, there is no roguish talk or any profanity.

There is only one scene in episode 9 in which a young Aki Hinata (who looks like Fuyuki) is hugged by Momoka Nishizawa and in the process of that hug, Nishizawa who wraps her arm around Aki and her hands on the side of her chest, she wonders why Fuyuki has breasts. And of course, there is a lot of mayhem and some fight scenes but seriously, the series is quite tame and is even aired to children in Japan (as evident by its targeted merchandise towards children in Japan) and various parts of the world. And I also shared the series with my six-year-old son who absolutely loved the series.

Overall, this is an anime series that is worth purchasing! For those who enjoyed “Crayon Shin Chan” (US dialogue version) may indulge in this distinguished tamer but hilarious anime series. But really, this series really can’t be compared to anything. It’s that new, wild and crazy. One can definitely query “Sgt. Frog” to be a series that has cold and fun characters and outrageously written episodes, definitely gain this anime series worth the seize!

Highly recommended!

Sgt. Frog is one of those rare anime properties that could only be made possible by global cooperation. The sight, the feel, the animation-style (heck the main character perhaps most of all) are all of Asian influence but mighty of this particular set’s charm stems from its American dub work. In all honesty, it would seem very easy to screw things up the plot Funimation went about combining the artistic influence of two very-different nations but after having fair completed this collection, I can spot with confidence that they defied the odds with this one! But before we catch ahead of ourselves here, let’s assume a notice at the frigid hard facts, shall we?

Funimation has recently acquired the rights to the demonstrate and has wasted microscopic time in getting the first share of the first season (Episodes 1-13) release out to the North American public for the first time ever. Coming in at a total runtime of 325 minutes, Sgt. Frog Season One Fraction 1 spans 2 discs and comes packaged as a pair of thin packs within a cardboard slipcase.

The note wears an appropriate if slightly conservative TV PG rating, which is presumably based more on adult-themed references and cartoony violence over nudity, substandard language or gore.

Language options are typical sub & dub meaning the option of novel Japanese dialog track (stereo) or an English dub (5.1 Dolby Surround) and English subtitles available under either language choice.

Extras include Pekopon Invasion Recon Data, textless songs and a host of Funimation trailers.

The sage, which actually works far better than I can possibly summarize here, goes something like this: Keroro is an adorable member of a militant urge of Position Frogs (a sergeant in fact) who arrived to earth as piece of an early attack squadron intending to conquer the planet. Once the invaders sight that humans aren’t quite the pushovers they initially perceived, the mission is aborted and the few frog troopers in the first wave of attack are abandoned.

Of course that first wave includes the title character, Sgt. Keroro and we follow along on the adventures of he and his adoptive earth family which includes a 9-year-old boy nerd, a 13-year passe tom boy girl, and their mother- a crotch-rocket riding humorous book artist. Best of all they give our hero a room that was a former-bomb shelter beneath the stairway of their house that honest so happens to be jumpy by the ghost of a tortured young girl.

Keroro isn’t quite ready to abandon all hopes of planetary conquest despite the fact that he discovers that he is actually growing quite fond of the human bustle and worse collected, has developed an addiction to anime (Robotech), toys (Gundam models) and of all things, karaoke.

As the point to progresses, he discovers that some of his fellow frog troops are actually good in his enjoy neighborhood and have been adopted by human families as well. Their collective mission remains in the hopes that their entire army will one day return to fulfill the goal of conquering earth but in the mean time there is plenty of adventure to be had on the “blue planet”.

If this sounds a puny goofy to you so far, don’t grief it is. Although the overall theme harkens succor to the type of animorphic-action that was enormous here in the U.S. in the gradual 1980s (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, anyone), the truth is this exhibit works on an entirely different plane. Namely it’s droll. No not impartial witty banter between its lead characters but pop-culture humorous with references that near posthaste and constant. Puny things like “Boy this is impartial like the beginning and ending scenes in all of the Jurassic Parks” or “You’re more picky than (David) Fincher!” or perhaps even “This will allow me to become invisible like the mask option on Facebook” should provide an indication of the tone here. While some may argue the recent Japanese dialog is comical enough to stand on its maintain merit, I must counter that Funimation went the extra mile in the English dub to preserve the humor on point!

It’s celebrated knowledge that Funimation spent a lot of time screening early versions of the dub to North American test audiences (including making clips available for review on Youtube) before being gay with the dub. The grand news is that the attention to detail pays dividends. The gleaming over-the-top cutes-ness of the visuals will sustain the younger situation involved while the dialog (sociological references especially) will ensure that the adults will be snickering.

This is one of very few times I will go as far as to say that the English dub is worthy to the current Japanese dialog track. Yes, it really works that well.

In all I would be exaggerating if I were to say that this is an arresting display for everyone but it will certainly appeal to a wide audience thanks to a near-endless succession of minute gags and bits that work on many levels. The enormous record arc, while in no anguish for being erroneous for a unique day masterpiece, is objective quaint enough to sustain the situations advancing from episode to episode. It’s the humor and zing of the characters within (and that includes the narrator and subtitles) that choose the note. Kudos to Funimation for recognizing the potential of the source material and for custom-tailoring it to appeal to its target audience.
