I occupy literally hundreds of anime DVDs. I am a fan of such shows as Noir, Madlax, Planetes, Egro Proxy and Gunsmith Cats. The sort of anime that is not too over-the-top science fiction and that has a tone of realism. For my buck Dusky Lagoon has to rate as my all time approved.

If you like action, darker storylines and morally “moving” characters then this anime is for you. I objective pray that Geneon gets their distribution nightmare worked out and the 2nd Barrage is eventually released. While Dark Lagoon is incredible, Dark Lagoon: 2nd Barrage is simply awsome.

I got it for special tag of 21.99(available when Amazon’s uncouth on stock) . This DVD is NOT rated PG, 16 and up, indecent violence & strong language. The volume 3 of Dim Lagoon continue narrative about kidnap a Cuban boy from his home. Roberta (is a woman), who’s armed, carry a shotgun (cleverly disguised as an umbrella) . I have fond memories of seeing the Apt Life Adventure films on the Disney TV display growing up, as well as in re-release in theatres, and this volume contains one of my favorites, Contain COUNTRY. The other 3 films are also very exquisite, with THE AFRICAN LION being a standout. These restored versions are resplendent and really allow you to experience nature’s majesty.

The extras are also quite superb, especially FILMMAKER’S JOURNAL, which features original interviews with people interested in making these movies. It’s really unbelievable what these people went through to film these adventures.

These films helped obtain my appreciate of nature as a child. Here’s hoping they can detached have that affect on kids today.

The complete Walt Disney “Moral Life Adventures” series is now available on very high quality DVD. Nothing filmed since comes up to these. Assume them all, and sit down with your family for spell-binding entertainment. My vote for the highlight of Volume 3 is “Acquire Country”. It is dwelling in Yellowstone National Park, and in addition to the bears, you salvage to stare into the hole of a geyser.

Warner Brother’s Gangsters Collection, Vol. 3 is a really nice dwelling filled with classic movies starring some of biggest movie legends of all time. While none of these movies have the reputation of a Public Enemy or The Roaring Twenties they are level-headed quite superb and very bright movies all the same. One of these films is a welcome surprise, even if it really isn’t a “Gangster” movie; Sad Legion.

Black Legion was an early starring role for Humphrey Bogart, one that showed that he could play someone other than a gangster, and play the portion well. It might be another 3 or 4 years before Bogart shook off the reputation as a supporting player in Gangster movies, but this movie helped gather him there. It is well written, well directed, and well acted by all fervent. (And it features one of my popular actresses of the 30′s and 40′s – Ann Sheridan!)

Now, maybe Kid Galahad would have been more appropriate for a “Gangsters” Box Location, but Dusky Legion is a improbable movie, and I’m very tickled to discover that it will finally be released on DVD. (And maybe Kid Galahad will scrutinize the light of day as a DVD in the next Gangsters spot.)

As for the other movies in the site, since there are other reviews with synopses and opinions I won’t declare that information, but I will sign that they are all superb of inclusion (well, we could debate Brother Orchid, but with Robinson AND Bogart it’s easy to understand why it was included), and despite most of these films not being particularly well known they are all generous to nearly stout!

Warner Brothers does as noble of a job as anyone (better than most) when it comes to cleaing up and releasing expedient looking prints of their classic movie catalog on DVD, so you can rest assured that this position will eye and sound stout (for movies of that era) .

This site is well worth buying for anyone with any interest in classic movies – especially classic Gangster movies! (At this effect you can’t go irascible!)

(And hopefully next time we’ll gawk Kid Galahad in the area…)

James Cagney portrays Danny Kean, a gangster looking to reform himself — after a stretch unhurried bars — with a novel career as a tabloid newspaper photographer. Dad is less than impressed with Kean’s fresh career and none too blissful about his daughter’s budding relationship. Lady Killer (1933)

In one of his more comedic efforts, Cagney plays Dan Quigley, a dilapidated con artist who goes to Hollywood to camouflage out and ends up becoming a star. Making it in present business may have its perks, but it also puts him in the spotlight and in jeopardy of being recognized by the thugs he ran away from. By turns, Lady Killer is a filmmaking spoof, a crime thriller and a character peer. With Cagney’s vitality out front, it’s definitely greater than the sum of its parts. The likable cast includes Mae Clarke, his co-star from Public Enemy (portion of the first Warner Bros. Gangster Collection) and the recipient of the celebrated grapefruit.

Factory worker Frank Taylor (Humphrey Bogart in one of his early starring roles) believes that he has missed out on a deserved promotion when it is instead given to a Polish immigrant. Brother Orchid (1940)

Edward G. Robinson and Humphrey Bogart made five films together and Brother Orchid is the only one in which neither is killed! In this gangster comedy, Cramped John Sarto (Robinson), returns from Europe where he was hoping to obtain some “class” and finds his used mob has been taken over by Jack Buck (Bogart) . Barely escaping an attempt on his life by the current regime, Sarto takes refuge in the monastery of the “Minute Brothers of the Flower,” pretending he’s involved in becoming a monk so that the Brothers will let him discontinue while he plots his revenge. However, the kindness of the monks gradually changes him and he resolves to turn over a original leaf and reject his violent past.

I hope that everyone who had problems playing the first 2 Bond collections had them addressed by now because Volume 3′s layout and features is consistent with the previous two. All players that received firmware upgrades after October 2008 should be able to play this plot.

Here is my evaluation of the unique Bond Blu-ray collection (a work in progress as I’m not fully done with the viewing) – and it’s not unlike my impression of the first 2.

THE GOOD:

- Fantastic video quality, most likely better than what the audience saw on release date on some of the older movies.

- Lots of extras, most of them worth watching or listening to.

- Comely, innovative packaging.

THE NOT SO GOOD:

- The sound restoration not as marvelous as the video on the early Bonds.

- Some of the ‘extras’ sections would succor from a ‘play all’ option.

- The boxes could be a bit slimmer.

- May require upgrades on distinct players if they haven’t been upgraded since September-October 2008.

The overall impression is of quality, inside and out. The box could be a cramped smaller but the packaging is gorgeous. There’s a transparent plastic prance veil over a solid cardboard box holding a shrimp binder on which the individual movie disks are attached to pages. Each movie comes on one disc holding the movie itself and in improbable amount of extras.

The menu interface is well organized and there’s even some humor in labeling. For example, the option that plays the movie is labeled ‘The Mission’ while the historic promotional material is found under ‘The Propaganda’. Depending on which part you may be, menu options branch into further sub-menus.

The extras are numerous and, for the most section bewitching. There are features on the restoration process and we accumulate to learn who did what, why and how. Then, we behold contemporary documentaries on the making of the movie and so on. The Goldfinger disc, for example, includes valid radio interviews with Sean Connery, 2 major documentaries on ‘the making of’ and ‘the world of’ Goldfinger, about 30 minutes each, current trailers, shroud tests, an interview with Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore), even a feature on Bond’s Aston Martin. And, amazingly, it all fits on one disc.

The spot where some of the older installments explain their age is the sound. The audio options include the unique sound track which, in the older releases is ‘mono’ but all movies advance with DTS-HD Master Audio 24-bit 5.1 surround as the default. The sound wasn’t upgraded and improved to the degree that the represent was but, it’s understandable. Going from mono to 5.1 surround is the equivalent of upgrading from gloomy and white to full-color 3-D in the world of images. Commentary sound tracks featuring the director and the cast and crew are also included.

When it comes to the video quality, the best that I can say is that you’ve got to seek it to possess it. The restoration of the older movies started with the true fresh negative, which is the one reference copy that’s almost never touched. Once the copy was digitized as a 4000 lines resolution digital copy (Bluray is 1080) every frame was reprocessed to eliminate any possible defects from ‘dirty optics’, such as the proverbial hair that we sometimes discover on the older movies to scratches, abominable exposure, color brilliance. The restorers’ goal for the ruin result, and this concerns the video only, not the sound quality, was to verbalize what would appear to be a contemporary movie with a 60′s or 70′s theme rather than a 60′s or 70′s movies. In my idea, they succeeded and, surprisingly, the 1964 Goldfinger looks as gracious as the 1979 Moonraker.

My overall rating is a solid five-stars. Unbiased about everything in this release is superlative: the physical packaging, the interface invent, the extras, the video quality. The sound is not so superior on the older movies but, given the region of sound restoration technologies, I did not feel compelled to engage a star because the stale movies sounded more or less like they did on release date or better.

As a James Bond fan, I’ve owned movies on VHS, Laser Disc, DVD and now Blu-Ray and I can explain you Watching then on Blu-Ray is like watching them for the first time. MGM has done a colossal job restoring theese films, the detailing is stout, I’ve noticed thing in the movies I’ve seen 20 or 30 times. These are a must absorb for any collection.

My sons (ages 6 and 4) treasure this current moving series, The Spectacular Spider-Man. The exhibit is grand better apt for younger audiences than Spider-Man’s last gripping series, which lasted only one season on MTV in 2003.

This series features all of Spider-Man’s most distinguished villians, including the Green Goblin, Venom, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Vulture, Rhino and Electro. In Volume 3, Peter Parker finds himself amidst more unsafe arch enemies, including the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Tombstone.

If you absolutely must remove a DVD factual now (birthday exhibit, etc.) this is a worthy choice for Spider-Man fans. Amazon has the DVD priced $5 below suggested retail stamp ($19.95) and this is a favorable choice for young children who care for Spider-Man.

The more economical decision is to wait for a DVD location release of all 26 episodes from Seasons 1 and 2, which should be priced around $30. It was announced earlier this year that Season 2 would go from the CW network to Disney XD. Season 2 is scheduled to start in March 2009. However, the Spectacular Spider-Man ended production after completing the 26th episode (the extinguish of Season 2) . A third season might happen, depending on the ratings Season 2 gets on Disney XD.

In summary, I’d rate The Spectacular Spider-Man series five stars based on the entertainment value for young superhero fans. The shows are accessible without being too scary or adult for the under-10 audience. However, by marketing the first season into four DVDs, I deduct two stars. The series is overpriced, especially in light of the novel economy.

“THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” has won a lot of viewers due to its unusual theme and its ability to attract and entertain Spider-Man fans of all ages.

“THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” is definitely a series for the next generation. Peter Parker is no longer the bookworm that is an outcast in the whole school. No glasses, no dreadful clothing and no self-esteem issues like the current teenager of the humorous book series. In fact, the spider he has been bit by is not radioactive but genetically altered.

This Peter Parker is cooler and even sports a man bag (or school bag) and has a birthmark.

In volume 3, Spider-Man learned that the Ample Man is Tombstone and that he will be in for a major surprise when he finds out the identity of the Green Goblin.

The episodes in volume two are as follows:

Episode 7 – Catalysts – It’s the Midtown High Topple Formal and Peter Parker brings his date, Mary Jane Watson, a pleasing red head that his Aunt May location up. Meanwhile, the Green Goblin makes his appearance and he challenges the Ample Man aka Tombstone.

Episode 8 – Reaction – As Dr. Otto Octavius is working on an experiment to design more dapper villains, the Green Goblin locks him in that experiment room and transforms Octavius to the Dr. Octopus.

Episode 9 – The Uncertainty Principle – While Colonel John Jameson tries to land his damaged place shuttle, Spider-Man battles Green Goblin and learns of his apt identity.

As mentioned, “THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” is definitely a series that has caught a lot of attention and even IGN has voted it as #30 in their “TOP 100 BEST Sharp TV SHOWS” poll. Unlike other Spider-Man absorbing series, Spider-Man’s physique matches a young teenager (as it should) .

And for us older folks passe to the classic moving series or older comical books and have young children, there is always something bewitching with Spider-Man throughout the years, no matter how considerable it differs from what we grew up with, the soul of Spider-Man and the characters are faithful but adjusted for novel times.

And it’s definitely a series that we can peruse and relish with our children. Another fun and challenging volume of “The Spectacular Spider-Man”.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

Video is presented in 1:78:1 anamorphic widescreen. Animation is nice and vibrant. Lines are elegant, characters and objects are simple with shadows and not as considerable detail when it comes to the backgrounds. But the choice to do this was to replicate fluidity of Spider-Man in the films. But overall, the animation is superior and shapely.

Audio is presented in English 5.1 (Dolby Digital) and French (Dolby Surround) .

JUDGMENT CALL:

“THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN” has been a aesthetic solid series thus far. Again, it’s not the Spider-Man I grew up with but for a current generation watching this, it’s adapted for a recent setting, its curious great differently than any Spider-Man animations in the past but everything works.

Watching it with my son, I deem it was colossal to regain a series that would be absorbing to the young children, teenagers and the adults.

I’ve read several interviews with series developers Victor Cook and Greig Weisman and both are Spider-Man fans but also fans of other genres such as Hong Kong films and also grabbing ideas from different eras, may it be from “Ultimate Spider-Man”, the films and thus determined purists may have a hard time with it but again, as a fan of the droll books and the many incarnations of Spider-Man attractive series, whats critical is that this series remains faithful to the characters.

Sure, they may have different storylines of how the villains became to be what they are but level-headed, the essence of who Peter Parker is and having to be this hero but yet gleaming that it will affect his personal relationships with those terminate to him is detached intact.

Episodes 7-9 was palatable as the previous episodes. And I like how the series captures the relationship (or lack of) the Osborn family between Harry and his father and how the Green Goblin is quite central to that storyline. And you know, when the Green Goblin is around, demand to glimpse quite a bit of action between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin.

Also, it’s arresting to sight how the Tremendous Man (L. Thompson Lincoln) aka Tombstone will be conventional in the series. So, far he has been able to manhandle Spider-Man and because his company and his character is so integral in the series, especially with the other villains, it will be entertaining to ogle how long he will stick around.

Overall, a fun and luscious series thus far. For those who are budget conscious, waiting for a bulky season may be of your best eager. I wished there was some sort of special feature included on the DVD but overall, an fascinating series that both young and stale can savor. Check it out!

Besides the recap episode which serves as mostly a slay it would seem, this volume did a wonderful job of resparking my interest in the anecdote and characters. While audiences may not gain themselves rushing out to bewitch and belief the next volume, there is more than enough here to gain a healthy level of curiosity towards what Michel plans to do next and what Vetti has up his sleeve as well. If you’ve been on the fence about this series in the past, this may be the volume that tips you one map or the other.
